Dear Colleagues,

The government has today launched its public consultation ‘Establishing a Mayoral Combined County Authority across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton and Hove.’

This consultation will run until 13 April.  It asks specific questions about the nature of a Sussex authority with regard to:

  • Geography
  • Governance
  • Supporting the economy
  • Improving social outcomes
  • Local government services
  • Improving the local natural environment
  • Supporting the needs of local communities and reflecting local identity

We will be sharing the consultation as widely as possible and encouraging residents, businesses and groups in East Sussex to have their say on this significant reform. We believe the opportunity to devolve more power and funding to Sussex will benefit all of us who live or work here.

I should stress that this consultation does not deal with prospects for local government reorganisations which is a separate process.

Please do feel free to share the consultation on devolution for Sussex as widely as you wish.

It is our understanding that there will be at least one public consultation event held here in East Sussex with the government due to give details in due course. Marketing and publicity material is also being shared.
