We are looking for an active, enthusiastic, committed person preferably with a background in administration and/ or finance to help make a difference to the community.
The Parish Council seeks to make life comfortable and enjoyable for the residents of Charlwood and Hookwood. In the past, this has included such things as building the Charlwood pavilion, installing playgrounds and new equipment and providing defibrillators. The Parish Council is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of The Glebe, The Millenium Field, The Cage and The Withey in Hookwood. The Parish Council reviews all planning applications and consultations that have an impact on our parish as well as making representation in areas like the Gatwick airport expansion.
The Parish Council has nine Councillors and is actively involved with a number of important projects aimed at improving the infrastructure, wellbeing and character of the village. Charlwood is working to complete its Neighbourhood Plan and over the next few years its population is expected to grow owing to ongoing development sites held in the Mole Valley Local Plan.
We are seeking a Parish Clerk/RFO with the vision and skills to work proactively for the benefit of our Parish and its residents. They will be required to complete a probationary period after which there may be further opportunities for advancement. They should hold, or work to attain, the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA).
They will be responsible for managing the day to day business of the Council, including the production of agendas and minutes for all Council meetings and committees, liaising with outside bodies, as well as providing advice and implementing the Council’s decisions. A knowledge of the workings of local government is beneficial.
The post holder will also be responsible for all the financial transactions and records of the Council and the administration of its finances. They will also have overall responsibility for the management of the Parish’s Pavillion and open spaces and playgrounds, all Health & Safety aspects of the Parish Council and for the management of Staff.
Applicants should have excellent communication and organisational skills, a sound financial background including the knowledge of accounting packages.

A suitable handover period and training will be provided.
Hours: 30 hours per week to include at least two evenings per month and some event work
Salary – National Joint Council for Local Government Services (NJC) pay scales. Salary will range from substantive benchmark between scale point 24 – £34,314 full time/ £17.79 per hour to scale point 27 – £37,035 full time/ £19.20 per hr – depending on experience and skills.
